Although ostensibly a London service, based on the top floor of the eccentric former Artiste Assoiffee restaurant townhouse on Westbourne Grove (Notting Hill), the good tailor of Nottingham is fortunately hands-on and can-do enough to measure and fit for you in the flagship Lower Pavement Nottingham outpost if you ask nicely which, in the case of the effortlessly charming Mr Smith, people generally do. Though ‘hand finished’ out of house, like most bespoke suits nowadays (see Richard James / Lutwyche) the cutting and fitting service is strictly ‘Row’ traditional and the fabrics the pick of Florentine and English cloth, as one would expect from Paul Smith. Cut, colour and detailing thereafter comes as imaginative and ‘classical with a twist-ed’ as your imagination will allow.
Unfortunately for you, this does mean you will never look at ready to wear anything again, which at Paul Smith Floral Street prices, may have considerable appeal to your betrothed. Unfortunately for her, ‘bespoke’ here is surprisingly good value, and with a repeat business factor on Westbourne Grove to put the Afghan poppy industry to shame, the chances are you will soon be on better name terms with your tailor (and the best florist in London, coincidentally just down the street) than she will be with her hairdresser (who will in turn find Paul Smith’s name irritatingly easy to remember). Still, you will look good for your divorce…
