Nick Holland is, for those who don’t keep up with Oasis gossip (or the crime statistics – one P.Docherty is a fan), the new boy on the block as far as wunderkind menswear ‘gurus’ are concerned, and the accolades do seem to be deserved this time. Inevitable comparisons to fellow Nottingham tailor and ‘Brit Hip’ hero Paul Smith have, yes, done much to hype the hype, and his ‘Made in England’ credentials are now firmly stamped on the proverbial sole thanks to a new ‘partnership’ with freshly redundant ‘MonkeyBoy’ prototype and 90’s throwback Liam Gallagher. Holland is, however, a gifted ‘modern’ tailor in the mould of the 20th century’s Ben Sherman, with a keen, knowing nod to the Soho of the 1950’s and 60’s, from its Carnaby Street zip to the Quadrophenia swagger; more Terrence Stamp meets Paul Weller than Paul Smith. Put simply, winklepicker sharp, street-sophisticated future-retro ‘whistles’ and kit for ‘faces’ in the know - most definitely one to keep carefully bagged for the ‘booted’ grandchildren then. Liam’s new label is called Pretty Green, after a Jam song featured, aptly, on the album ‘Sound Affects’. In his own word; ’Sound!’
